Metal Cutting Saw
Hole saw discussed in all varieties. Metal, adjustable, concrete, diamond, masonry, and more.
A metal cutting saw is exactly what you need for the heavy projects around your home. When you’re trying to adapt a length of piping but it just won’t fit, or you’re installing new aluminum siding to your shed, but your sheet is simply too long, you need a way to conform the metal to your will. Only a metal cutting saw is capable of doing this properly, and will guarantee that you get the job done to your satisfaction. Plus, you won’t have to buy any heavy or expensive equipment you own, to convert your hand or band saw, into a full blown metal slicing machine.
The way that metal cutting saw blades work, is by using a special type of blade to cut through metal safely and smoothly. Typically these blades are made from a cement, or tungsten carbide material. Cement saws are one of the best types, because they can effectively stay cool, as well as shred the metal completely. Tungsten carbide can be perfect for smaller tasks, but isn’t ideal for cutting large sections of sheet metal. But either type of metal cutting saw blade will work in most scenarios, and both are available fairly conveniently, so you should be able to find exactly what you need without a problem.
The reason that using a standard metal cutting saw on metallic surface isn’t a good idea, is for a number of reasons really. Number one, using one metal to try and cut another of the same type doesn’t work very well, and your blade will be worn down, and may even break in the process. That can be dangerous for the operator, and can cause permanent damage to the saw itself. Even if you manage to cut through the metal successfully, you’re likely to have a jagged edge, or a cut that’s not very smooth at all. This is because the saw has to work overly hard, and is literally muscling itself through, instead of cutting.
Another reason that not using a proper metal cutting saw can be extremely bad, is simply because of the heat buildup between the two surfaces. When you’re cutting a metal object of any kind, with another piece of metal, a ton of friction and heat energy build up. That can be dangerous, especially when mixed with the engine that drives your saw. But also, this can cause injury as sparks are likely to shoot up in all directions, and can easily burn the skin. But what’s more, sparking is a huge danger for starting fires on any flammable surface that may be in the area. But this can be easily avoided by using a metal cutting saw that’s actually intended for metal surfaces.
Metal cutting saw blades are fairly easy to find, as they are very common hardware tools. You can usually find suitable options at stores like Home Depot, which are completely capable of converting a saw that you already own, into the perfect avenue to cut the metal that you need. A metal cutting saw blade itself can be fairly expensive however, usually costing around $100 to even $300, so you may be looking at a sizeable investment to get your work done properly.
